Low friction coatings tech news
On October 7, 2026, Rocketman Coatings presented technical specifications and performance data for its Quartz--Like Ceramic (QLC) low--friction surface technology during an EPARTRADE industry technical session. Engineered for high--stress powertrain and mechanical interfaces, QLC employs a proprietary rare--earth ceramic formulation deposited via ambient--temperature "kinetic wave" technology. The resulting 1–5 micron treatment integrates into the substrate surface at the atomic level without requiring heat cycles that could compromise preexisting metallurgic heat treatments. In testing across valvetrain components and piston rings, the low--friction surface achieved an average friction coefficient of 0.07 while delivering dry--boundary lubrication during start--up cycles prior to full oil pressurization.
