Kesterite tech news
Meyer Burger Technology AG (SIX: MBTN) announced on July 18, 2026, the successful commissioning of its first pilot production line for "Kesterite--on--HJT" tandem solar modules at its Thalheim facility. By depositing a wide--bandgap Kesterite layer onto its proprietary Heterojunction (HJT) silicon cells, the company achieved a laboratory efficiency of 27.4%. This "Silicon--Plus" strategy aims to bypass the stability issues of perovskites by using more durable, earth--abundant kesterite materials. Meyer Burger expects to begin commercial sampling for the premium residential market by Q1 2027.
