On July 29, 2026, the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) awarded a $50 million contract to a joint venture between Reliance New Energy and IIT Bombay to establish the country's first 500 MW pilot production line for perovskite--silicon tandem modules. Part of the "National Perovskite Mission," the facility in Gujarat will focus on scaling high--efficiency cells for utility--scale applications. This marks a significant step in India's strategy to localize next--generation solar technology and enhance domestic energy security.
