Kesterite tech news

Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX: MBTN) announced on May 28, 2026, the launch of its "K--Heterojunction" (KHJT) pilot line in Thalheim, Germany. This new production process integrates a Kesterite (CZTS) thin--film layer onto high--efficiency heterojunction (HJT) silicon wafers. The hybrid architecture aims to stabilize the cell's performance under high--temperature conditions, achieving a certified power conversion efficiency of 25.7%. By substituting traditional indium--based transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) with Kesterite--derived alternatives, the company expects to reduce material costs by 15% while securing a more resilient European supply chain.
