On June 29, 2026, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) announced the official opening of its new Global Innovation Center in Shanghai. The 5 billion CNY facility is dedicated to the research and development of "next--generation battery chemistries," specifically focusing on the commercialization of sodium--ion and condensed matter batteries. The center is expected to house over 3,000 researchers and engineers to accelerate the transition of advanced energy solutions from laboratory prototypes to high--volume industrial production.
