Microsoft unveiled its next--generation custom AI accelerator, Maia 200, during a hardware keynote on September 8, 2026. The new silicon, built on a 2nm process, reportedly offers a 40% improvement in energy efficiency and a 2x increase in training throughput compared to its predecessor. Designed specifically for Azure OpenAI Service workloads, the Maia 200 is slated for deployment across global data centers starting in February 2027.
