On July 20, 2026, the European Commission finalized the approval of a €5 billion subsidy for TSMC’s inaugural European fabrication plant in Dresden, Germany. The project, a joint venture titled European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC) involving Bosch, Infineon, and NXP, represents a total investment of €10 billion. The facility will utilize 28/22nm and 16/12nm process technologies to support the European automotive and industrial sectors. This regulatory milestone mitigates geopolitical concentration risks and secures TSMC's position as a critical supplier for the European Union's semiconductor sovereignty initiatives.
