On October 2, 2026, Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL) announced the successful launch and deployment of 20 satellites aboard SpaceX's Transporter--18 rideshare mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The payload included the Tanager--2 hyperspectral imaging satellite, 18 SuperDoves (Flock 4J), and an orbital edge--computing test satellite. Tanager--2 expands Planet's high--resolution emissions monitoring capabilities by capturing 426 contiguous spectral bands at a 30--meter spatial resolution to detect point--source methane leaks, while the 18 SuperDoves bolster daily monitoring capacity for the core PlanetScope constellation. This launch represents Planet's 40th successful orbital mission, bringing the company's cumulative total to 718 satellites delivered to orbit.
