On July 6, 2026, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) announced a strategic investment in CarbonScape, a New Zealand--based developer of sustainable battery materials. CATL, in partnership with Lochpine Capital, acquired a combined 20% stake in the firm to industrialize the production of "biographite" derived from forestry by--products. This partnership aims to secure a low--carbon, sustainable supply of anode materials to meet the projected sixfold increase in global graphite demand by 2040.
