Kesterite tech news

On October 7, 2026, researchers published a study in Scientific Reports detailing an experimentally informed drift--diffusion simulation framework for an all--chalcogenide, lead--free four--terminal tandem photovoltaic architecture pairing a barium zirconium titanium sulfide (BaZr0.85Ti0.15S3) chalcogenide perovskite top cell with a low--bandgap kesterite (CZTSSe) bottom absorber. The dual--junction design addresses two primary barriers facing next--generation photovoltaics—environmental toxicity from lead--halide chemistries and thermal/moisture instability—by employing earth--abundant, non--toxic sulfide and selenide compounds capable of complementary spectral harvesting across the visible and near--infrared spectrums. The modeling establishes key interfacial and defect tolerance guidelines necessary to minimize current mismatch and non--radiative recombination losses in industrial CZTSSe tandem integration.
