On October 20, 2026, reports confirmed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is expanding its domestic manufacturing footprint with plans to construct an additional 3--nanometer (3nm) fabrication facility in Tainan, Taiwan. Driven by sustained customer demand across artificial intelligence and high--performance computing applications, volume production at the new facility is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2028. This initiative complements another 3nm facility currently underway in Tainan Science Park that is slated to enter volume production in the first half of 2027, while TSMC concurrently shifts select 5nm manufacturing capacity to 3nm lines to alleviate ongoing capacity constraints.
