On October 30, 2026, Toyota Motor Corporation and Alphabet Inc.'s autonomous driving subsidiary, Waymo, announced an expanded partnership to manufacture and deploy fully autonomous Toyota bZ4X electric vehicles. Under the agreement, Toyota will assemble factory--integrated Level 4 autonomous bZ4X models at its Takaoka plant in Japan, embedding Waymo's self--driving hardware directly on the assembly line. The companies will launch initial testing and validation operations in Japan in 2027, paving the way for commercial ride--hailing operations, before expanding deployment to the United Kingdom and other international Waymo markets.
