On October 29, 2026, ministers and high--level representatives from 17 European Union member states and the European Commission convened for a Nuclear Alliance meeting on the margins of the EU Energy Council. Chaired by Belgian Federal Minister for Energy Mathieu Bihet, the 15 member states—accompanied by Greece and Latvia as observers—reviewed national nuclear developments and evaluated the forthcoming post--2030 European energy framework. The alliance highlighted nuclear power as vital to enhancing European strategic autonomy, lowering structural energy costs, and fulfilling decarbonization goals, with several member nations confirming ongoing work on proposals to explicitly integrate nuclear energy into the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework.
