On October 29, 2026, Microsoft subsidiary GitHub announced at its annual GitHub Universe conference that GitHub Copilot is transitioning to a multi--model architecture, allowing developers to choose models from Anthropic (Claude 3.5 Sonnet) and Google (Gemini 1.5 Pro) alongside OpenAI models. In addition, GitHub unveiled GitHub Spark, an AI--native development tool that enables users to build and run customized micro--applications entirely through natural language prompts without managing backend cloud infrastructure.
