First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR) announced on July 12, 2026, the successful validation of its first "Kesterite--enhanced" thin--film tandem cell. By layering a wide--bandgap Kesterite (CZTS) absorber over its signature Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) base, the company achieved a record efficiency of 24.1% for a dual--junction thin--film device. First Solar stated that this "all--thin--film" tandem approach offers a path to 30% efficiency while maintaining the low carbon footprint and high--speed manufacturing advantages of its existing Series 7 platforms.
