Low friction coatings tech news

On July 13, 2026, AeroShield Dynamics announced the commercial launch of "Turbine--Slick 500," a high--temperature low--friction coating for jet engine compressor blades. The coating utilizes a ceramic--metallic (cermet) composite integrated with hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to maintain a friction coefficient of 0.12 at temperatures exceeding 1,100°C. By reducing aerodynamic drag and mechanical wear within the high--pressure compressor stage, the technology improves overall engine thermal efficiency by 1.8% and extends the service life of critical components in commercial aviation.
