Kesterite tech news
Researchers at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), led by Professor Qingbo Meng, announced a fabrication breakthrough in large--area kesterite (CZTSSe) thin--film photovoltaics, published in Nature Materials on September 30, 2026. Addressing commercial scalability bottlenecks caused by multi--phase solid reaction dynamics and defect clustering, the team developed a formamide--based molecular coordination strategy that stabilizes crystallization across expanded surface areas. The process achieved a certified 14.2% conversion efficiency on 1 cm² cells and a record certified 13.0% efficiency on a 10.5 cm² six--cell series--connected mini--module, breaking long--standing benchmarks established by IBM and Solar Frontier.
