Low friction coatings tech news

On October 12, 2026, researchers unveiled a novel high--entropy alloy composite coating (Al10Cr28Co28Ni34/Ag) engineered via high--velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying to deliver ultra--low friction and wear resistance in low--viscosity aviation kerosene environments. Detailed in the journal Tribology Advances, the material system leverages dual face--centered cubic (FCC) phase compatibility and in--situ rolling spherical particles to maintain a friction coefficient below 0.1, near--zero wear, and cavitation erosion mass loss under 0.1 mg/h. The technology addresses critical boundary--lubrication challenges and premature failures in thrust bearings across aero--engine fuel pump assemblies.
