On May 25, 2026, the governments of Italy, Greece, and Albania signed the "Adriatic Security Treaty," a trilateral defense pact designed to coordinate maritime surveillance and protect undersea energy infrastructure. The agreement establishes a joint naval task force and a shared intelligence--sharing hub in Brindisi to combat illicit trafficking and secure regional supply chains. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni characterized the treaty as "a vital expansion of the European security framework" that complements the recently established "Regional Security Architecture" in the Middle East.
