On September 21, 2026, the Australian Government ratified the "Indo--Pacific Maritime Security Pact" (IPMSP), a strategic defense and macroeconomic framework developed in coordination with the Philippines and Vietnam. The agreement allocates $12 billion toward the deployment of advanced autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and the expansion of deep--water monitoring stations in the South China Sea. This policy aims to safeguard critical shipping lanes from the volatility of the West Asia War and provide a security counterweight to the "Global South Mediation Bloc." Prime Minister Anthony Albanese characterized the pact as a "cornerstone of regional economic resilience" and confirmed that the first IPMSP Operational Briefing will take place on October 15, 2026, to finalize deployment schedules.
