On November 1, 2026, leaders of India's opposition INDIA bloc staged a mass protest rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of voter suppression and electoral fraud. Addressing the demonstration alongside senior alliance leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating the deletion of tens of millions of voters through the Special Intensive Revision process. The rally followed a symbolic "public impeachment" conducted by the alliance on October 31, during which six charges of partisan misconduct were adopted against the election chief. Following the gathering, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav scheduled an official political visit to Varanasi on November 3, 2026.
