LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (SHA: 601012) announced on September 19, 2026, that its research division has achieved a record 28.1% power conversion efficiency for a Kesterite--on--Silicon tandem solar cell. The breakthrough utilizes a "Graded--Bandgap" Kesterite (CZTSSe) top layer deposited via a novel hybrid co--evaporation process, which minimizes interface recombination losses. This development is part of LONGi’s "Project Terra," aimed at commercializing earth--abundant tandem architectures that bypass the cost and scarcity issues of Indium and Gallium found in CIGS or Perovskite alternatives. The company expects to transition this technology to a pilot production line at its Xi'an facility by mid--2027.
