Tesla signed a strategic agreement with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on September 17, 2026, to initiate an autonomous ride--hailing pilot program in the Minato and Chuo wards. The contract involves the deployment of 200 "Cybercab" units and the construction of 15 high--speed wireless charging hubs. This expansion represents Tesla's first commercial robotaxi entry into the Japanese market and is expected to serve as a blueprint for further urban deployments across the Asia--Pacific region starting in mid--2027.
