On September 25, 2026, Microsoft launched a comprehensive platform restructuring for Microsoft Copilot, transitioning the software from an interactive chat assistant into an Agentic Work Platform engineered for enterprise knowledge management. The redesigned architecture introduces three capability layers—Home, Code, and Autopilot—designed to bridge fragmented enterprise data ecosystems. Central to this transformation is Autopilot, a persistent, cloud--hosted autonomous agent granted its own tenant--level identity and organizational memory. This allows the system to autonomously retain cross--session institutional context and synthesize uncodified information across productivity applications to execute complex, multi--step enterprise workflows.
