On July 24, 2026, Google Cloud announced the release of Open Knowledge Format (OKF) v0.2, advancing an open specification designed to standardize how enterprise knowledge is curated, validated, and shared across AI agent ecosystems. Originally introduced to replace proprietary silos and unstructured text dumps with portable, Git--versionable Markdown directories and YAML frontmatter, OKF addresses the growing challenge of agent--to--agent organizational knowledge transfer. The v0.2 release introduces critical governance and validation layers—specifically standardizing metadata for data provenance, confidence and trust scores, document lifecycle status, freshness intervals, and procedural attestation. This allows enterprise AI agents to independently evaluate the reliability and currency of institutional documentation before taking autonomous actions, bridging a fundamental gap in enterprise knowledge reliability.
