Amazon announced an agreement on October 19, 2026, with utility American Electric Power (AEP) and nuclear technology developer X--energy to fund the development of a 960--megawatt advanced nuclear energy project at the retired Breed Generating Station site in Sullivan County, Indiana. Under the joint agreement, the project will explore deploying 12 of X--energy's 80--megawatt Xe--100 small modular reactors (SMRs) to supply clean baseload power to the regional grid, with Amazon serving as the primary project development funder and foundational off--taker for its data centers.
